At Kandessence & Co., every candle is handcrafted with care and designed to elevate your space with warmth, beauty, and sophistication. To enjoy the best performance from your candle and help ensure a safe burn, please follow the care and safety guidelines below.
1. First Burn
For the first burn, allow the candle to melt evenly across the surface, ideally reaching the edges of the vessel, before extinguishing.
For best results, do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
A proper first burn helps prevent tunneling and promotes an even melt pool throughout the life of your candle.
2. Trim the Wick
Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch (6 mm).
A properly trimmed wick helps control flame height, reduce soot, and promote a cleaner, more even burn.
Always trim the wick when the wax is completely cool. Use a wick trimmer or scissors, and remove any wick trimmings before lighting.
3. Burn Time
- Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
- Never burn a candle down to the bottom of the vessel.
- Discontinue use when approximately ½ inch (1.3 cm) of wax remains.
Burning a candle beyond its recommended life can cause excessive heat and may damage the vessel.
4. Proper Placement
Always place your candle on a stable, level, and heat-resistant surface.
Keep candles away from:
- Drafts, fans, and air vents
- Curtains, bedding, paper, and other flammable materials
- Children and pets
- High-traffic areas where the candle may be bumped or knocked over
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
5. Extinguishing Your Candle
For the safest and cleanest experience, use a candle snuffer or wick dipper to extinguish the flame.
Avoid blowing out the flame whenever possible, as this may cause hot wax to splatter or produce excess smoke.
Never use water to extinguish a candle.
6. Candle Storage
Store candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and extreme temperature changes.
Proper storage helps preserve the candle's fragrance, appearance, and overall quality.
7. Vessel Safety
The candle vessel may become hot during use.
- Never touch or move a burning candle.
- Allow the vessel and wax to cool completely before handling or relocating the candle.
- Never place a hot vessel directly on an unprotected surface.
- Discontinue use if the vessel becomes cracked, chipped, or damaged.
8. Wax Melts
Use wax melts only in a warmer specifically designed and approved for wax melts.
- Do not add water to wax melts.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your wax warmer.
- Never leave a wax warmer unattended while in use.
- Keep wax warmers away from children, pets, drafts, and flammable materials.
- Allow melted wax to cool before handling or removing it.
9. Reuse & Refill
Once your candle has reached the end of its usable life, allow the vessel to cool completely before removing any remaining wax.
Your Kandessence & Co. vessel may be reused for décor or storage once it has been thoroughly cleaned.

10. Important Safety Reminder
